Green Day is getting ready to embark on a world tour in 2024 in support of their latest album, Saviours. But the punk-rockers will also use the opportunity to celebrate two of their most iconic records, Dookie and American Idiot.

The group announced on social media that they intend to play Dookie and American Idiot in full on every show during The Saviors Tour alongside “a bunch of your other favorites, new and old, all summer long.” The tour, which kicks off in May, will see the band perform 43 shows in Europe and North America.

Released in 1994, Dookie is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It is an album that put Green Day on the map and is often considered one of the greatest records in punk music. The record features songs like “Basket Case”, “Longview”, and “When I Come Around”.

American Idiot, on the other hand, turned 20 in 2024. It was a hit among the critics and audience, becoming the band’s first release that topped the US Billboard 200. It contained hits like “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”

Green Day will officially release Saviors, their 14th studio album, on January 19. The early reviews of the record are positive, while the band is billing it as the “best of everything that Green Day has.”

“Whether it’s something from Dookie or American Idiot, I think somehow we were able to bridge the gap in making something that is like an essential record for us,” Billie Joe Armstrong shared in a recent interview.

Anniversaries are a time for nostalgia and Tré Cool has subsequently taken a moment to look back at the concert that changed everything.

That show was Woodstock ’94.

Speaking on the Member Guest Podcast, Cool recalled: “’94 Woodstock was a complete s**t show. It was a Pepsi-sponsored thing, it was, like, worldwide televised pay-per-view and all that stuff, and every band of significance was there. It was crazy.

“And of course people start going around the fence and sneaking in, and it kind of became mayhem. And then bad weather came and it was raining like crazy and the whole place became a mud pit. It was pretty chaotic, and set up really well for Green Day to take the stage and make all hell break loose.”

He continued: “It got all chaotic. We kept trying to play, but Billie [Joe Armstrong] was getting mud hitting his guitar and Mike [Dirnt] was getting it on his bass and hitting him. Luckily my drum set was just far enough back where I was less in harm’s way… It was punk as f**k, and nobody expected that to happen.

“It was a crazy set – a set that changed our whole lives, really,” he concluded. “After that day, tons of people were showing up at our shows. That was kind of the pivot moment – that was the green jacket moment for this band.”
