The post Something to Celebrate: the Number of Female Grammy Winners is Up By 82% appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>Last year, only 17 of 86 awards were given to women. CEO Neil Portnow suggested at the post-ceremony press conference that it was time for women to “step up.” This year, 31 women were presented with awards, demonstrating that more and more women are nurturing their musical talents and more importantly, that their talents are being recognized and celebrated.
Among the 31 women who won awards were Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Dua Lipa, and Kacey Musgraves. Kacey took home Album of the Year, Best Country Album, Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance.
Backstage at the event, Musgraves said: “I think that women have a really necessary perspective to art, to music and it’s really nice to see that getting a chance to be included.”
She continued: “I think it takes two to tango and I think it takes women having the balls to put out art that might not always be liked by everyone, but it also takes people on the other side of that to reach out and give those things a chance to be heard or seen.”
