Funk icon George Clinton announced back in 2018 that he will retire from touring in 2019 and it looks like he won’t back out on this plan. Clinton will, however, take one last road trip and has recently revealed the dates for his final tour with his legendary group Parliament-Funkadelic.

The tour will kick off in Sidney on February 19th, and will see George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic play across Australia, Japan, and the United States before wrapping up the road in Las Vegas on September 18th. During this journey, funk legends will be joined by several other acts on selected dates including Fishbone, Dumpstaphunk, and Miss Velvet & The Blue Wolf.

“I would love to keep on doing this but I’ll be 78 in a few more months,” – Clinton told Rolling Stone magazine after announcing the tour dates. “Even though I feel like I’m just getting started, the reality is the group needs to go ahead and keep it going. We’ve got a new vibe in the band, and they’ve been carrying it for the last three years. I’ve been up there representing for people, but they’ve actually been turning the place out. And we’ve been selling out for the last five years, every night.”

Besides the fact that they are embarking on their last tour, 2019 will be special for George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic due to the fact that they will receive Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award. The group will be honored for their “outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording,” at a ceremony held on May 11th, 2019 in Los Angeles.

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded since 1963 to “performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.”
