]]>Members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, including Johnny Van Zant who’s been with the band for 36 years, said they were unsure if they would continue following Rossington’s untimely passing, but eventually decided that the show must go on.
“After much discussion with the band, the families of Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins, and Dale Rossington, the collective has reached unified support, and feel that continuing to perform LIVE, and keeping the music alive, is in the best interest of the fans and everyone involved,” read the band’s statement.
Rossington’s wife Dale, who’s been the band’s backing vocalist since 1987 is on board with this decision because he always used to say, “Skynyrd’s music is bigger than me or any one person” and they want to continue his legacy by performing for future generations.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was originally founded by Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Larry Junstrom, and Bob Burns in 1964 and the remaining members are planning to continue touring as they approach their 50th anniversary.
