France Gall has died after a long battle with cancer. She was best known for her win at the Eurovision song contest in 1965 with Serge Gainsbourg’s “Poupée de cire, Poupée de son”.

Gall was born in Paris  to the lyricist Robert Gall, and singer Cecile Berthier. Her professional music career began at the young age of 16 with her first single “Ne sois pas si bête”.  After winning the Eurovision song contest in ’65 she gained worldwide recognition and toured around the world.

In 1973, Gall met singer and composer Michel Berger. Three years later, the two got married and had two girls. Their musical collaboration reached it’s peak when Gall sang “Ella, elle l’a”, a song written by Berger about the jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald.
