The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Sweden next year, and the participating countries are slowly choosing their representatives. Years & Years’ singer Olly Alexander has been chosen to represent the United Kingdom at the next edition of Eurovision.

Taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true for Alexander, and he promised he’s going to give it everything he’s got and put on an excellent and unforgettable performance.

“As a young boy, I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion, and humor. I really can’t believe I’m going to be a part of such a special legacy,” said Alexander in a statement.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, described Alexander as “the perfect ambassador for the UK as both an immensely talented and world-renowned artist and passionate fan of the competition.”

Alexander is best known as the singer of the pop band Years & Years, which has been operating as his solo project for the past two years. He achieved two No. 1 albums in the UK under this moniker, including Communion and Night Call, in addition to topping the singles chart with their breakout hit “King”.

The Eurovision Song Contest will return to Sweden after Loreen’s historic second win in Liverpool, and the host has finally been chosen. The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the Swedish city of Malmö, which will host the competition for the third time.

Martin Österdahl, the executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, announced their selection in an official statement, adding that Malmö felt like a perfect choice after hosting the contest both in 1992 and in 2013 following Loreen’s last win.

“Malmö holds a special place in the history of the Contest… We’re excited to be returning to this vibrant and dynamic city which has demonstrated it has the venues and infrastructure that are perfect for staging the world’s largest live music event,” said Österdahl.

Ebba Adielsson, SVT’s executive producer of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, added that they received strong, compelling, and creative proposals from several cities. Malmö was eventually chosen because it provides a location with great venues, where everyone attending the contest can move around easily.

The 68th Eurovision Song Contest will take place at the Malmö Arena after Swedish singer Loreen made history as the first woman to win the competition twice with her song “Tattoo”.

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest took place in Liverpool, so it wasn’t a shocker to see its biggest hits surge to the top of the UK Singles Chart. Four Eurovision tracks managed to make it to the top ten in this country, starting with the winning song “Tattoo” by Loreen.

Loreen was just one step away from reaching the top, but she eventually lost a tight race for No. 1 to Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s “Miracle”. Debuting at No. 2 is still pretty impressive and this is her new career high, beating the No. 3 debut by her previous Eurovision winner “Euphoria”.

Finish singer Käärijä, who came in second at the Eurovision with his viral hit “Cha Cha Cha”, also made an impact on the chart, hitting the No. 6 spot. Despite her disappointing Eurovision ranking, Mae Muller’s “I Wrote A Song” surged to No. 9, and she was followed by the Norwegian singer Alessandra with “Queen of Kings” at No. 10.

The rest of the UK Singles Chart for this week mostly consists of beloved British acts, including Ed Sheeran’s “Eyes Closed” and Lewis Capaldi’s “Wish You the Best”, but it also features TikTok sensation David Kushner at No. 3 with “Daylight”.

Eurovision Song Contest was one for the books this year and Loreen ended up making history when she lifted the trophy. The Swedish singer defeated tough competition with her power ballad “Tattoo”, becoming the first woman in history to win Eurovision twice.

Loreen came into the competition as a front-runner and the jury gave her 340 points in the first stage of the voting. She was far ahead of Israel and Italy in the second and third spots, but Eurovision viewers were hoping that the public vote would change it all.

Finland’s Käärijä led the televote with his viral hit “Cha Cha Ca” and received impressive 376 points from the public. This wasn’t enough to get him over the finish line, and Loreen eventually lifted the trophy with a total of 583 points from the jury and the public combined.

The Swedish singer made history as the first woman to win Eurovision twice, having previously won with “Euphoria” in 2012. She admitted that the experience was much different the second time around because she evolved as a person and a musician.

“Now, 11 years later, life has thrown me up and down, left and right. A lot of things have happened during these 11 years. So, coming back, there is this effortless energy. It’s such a soft, motherly energy… I’m much more present now than I was then, and I love it,” she told NME.

The 67th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and Finland, Israel, Italy, and Norway ended up rounding out the top five.

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest is just around the corner and it’s bringing many amazing new songs our way. Now it’s a better time than ever to look back at some of the best songs from the past few years, and here are three viral Eurovision hits that got everyone talking.

Rosa Linn – “Snap”

Rosa Linn’s “Snap” didn’t make much of an impression at the Eurovision, finishing in the disappointing 20th place, but that didn’t stop it from going viral on TikTok. It became the first Eurovision song in 21 years to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart and led to Linn touring with Ed Sheeran and signing a deal with Columbia Records.

Måneskin – “Zitti e buoni”

Måneskin is one of the rare Eurovision acts to find international fame. They performed on SNL, scored a Grammy nod for the best new artist, and made quite a splash with their viral “Beggiin’” cover, but most of their fans discovered them long before that. “Zitti e buoni” started it all after it brought them a win at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.

Daði Freyr – “Think About Things”

Daði Freyr was one of the favorites coming into the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest and everyone was raving about his viral hit “Think About Things”. It all went downhill after the contest was canceled in the face of the COVID pandemic, and the replacement song “10 Years” failed to replicate its success, finishing in the fourth spot.

Eurovision Song Contest has been bringing mind-blowing stage performances into our homes for decades, but it won’t be doing so this year. The biggest musical competition of the old continent is the latest major entertainment event to be canceled in the face of current global health crises.

This is the first time in its history that Eurovision Song Contest has been canceled, but representatives said they have explored many alternative options in the last few weeks and felt it would be best for the competition not to go on as the world battles the pandemic of the coronavirus.

“We are very proud that the Eurovision Song Contest has united audiences every year, without interruption, for the past 64 years and we, like the millions of fans around the world, are extremely saddened that it cannot take place in May,” reads the official statement.

Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was supposed to take place in Rotterdam after the Dutch contestant Duncan Laurence won last year’s contest with his song “Arcade.” The competition was scheduled for two semifinal nights on May 12th and 14th, and the big finale on May 16th.

Over the past few weeks we have explored many alternative options to allow the Eurovision Song Contest to go ahead. . We would ask people to bear with us while we work through the ramifications of this unprecedented decision and patiently await any further news in the coming days and weeks. . We would like to pay tribute to all the host broadcaster team in the Netherlands and our 41 Members who have worked so hard on planning this year’s event. . We are all as heartbroken as they are that the Eurovision Song Contest will not be able to be staged in May and know that the whole Eurovision family, across the world, will continue to provide love and support for each other at this difficult time.

Eurovision Song Contest is bringing pop extravaganza to Tel Aviv, and we can’t wait to see who’ll be crowned as the winner on Saturday night. We’re bringing you five songs that could emerge victorious at the end.

Duncan Laurence – Arcade

The Netherlands is bookies’ favorite to win this year’s Eurovision, and it wouldn’t be the first front-runner to ever do so.

John Lundvik – Too Late For Love

Sweden takes Eurovision very seriously, and it produced six Top 10 acts during the 2010s alone – so we’re always counting on them to do great.

Kate Miller-Heidke – Zero Gravity

Having Australia take part in Eurovision may be weird, but their track record is pretty great, and this year’s candidate sounds quite promising.

Sergey Lazarev – Scream

Russian singer Sergey Lazarev took third spot when he competed back in 2016, but many people are hyped about his return and they’re hoping he’ll come out victorious this time.

Chingiz – Truth

Azerbaijani entry is one of the most radio-friendly songs of this year’s competition. Even if it doesn’t win, we’ll probably get to hear it again after Eurovision is over.

Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest pop music extravaganza and this year’s ceremony is shaping up to be the most epic one ever. The 64th edition of the international competition will take place in Israel, with Madonna serving as a special guest.

The news of Madonna’s involvement was announced by Live Nation Israel and Bluestone Entertainment, both co-owned by the singer’s manager Guy Oseary. She’ll reportedly perform two songs, including one from her upcoming album.

This announcement took the whole world by storm since a star of her magnitude never performed at the Eurovision before. It’s been reported that her set will cost an estimated $1 million, and it will apparently be financed by Canadian billionaire Sylvan Adams.

“I’m excited and proud to host Madonna in. I believe her performance, accompanied by dozens of professional backup dancers, will make a significant contribution to the success of the event and to the strengthening of Israel’s positive branding in the world,” said Adams while chatting with “The Jerusalem Post”.

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will consist of two semi-finals taking place on May 14 and 16, and final show on May 18. It will take place at Expo Tel Aviv, with 41 countries taking part.
