]]>Martin Österdahl, the executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, announced their selection in an official statement, adding that Malmö felt like a perfect choice after hosting the contest both in 1992 and in 2013 following Loreen’s last win.
“Malmö holds a special place in the history of the Contest… We’re excited to be returning to this vibrant and dynamic city which has demonstrated it has the venues and infrastructure that are perfect for staging the world’s largest live music event,” said Österdahl.
Ebba Adielsson, SVT’s executive producer of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, added that they received strong, compelling, and creative proposals from several cities. Malmö was eventually chosen because it provides a location with great venues, where everyone attending the contest can move around easily.

]]>Loreen was just one step away from reaching the top, but she eventually lost a tight race for No. 1 to Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s “Miracle”. Debuting at No. 2 is still pretty impressive and this is her new career high, beating the No. 3 debut by her previous Eurovision winner “Euphoria”.
Finish singer Käärijä, who came in second at the Eurovision with his viral hit “Cha Cha Cha”, also made an impact on the chart, hitting the No. 6 spot. Despite her disappointing Eurovision ranking, Mae Muller’s “I Wrote A Song” surged to No. 9, and she was followed by the Norwegian singer Alessandra with “Queen of Kings” at No. 10.
The rest of the UK Singles Chart for this week mostly consists of beloved British acts, including Ed Sheeran’s “Eyes Closed” and Lewis Capaldi’s “Wish You the Best”, but it also features TikTok sensation David Kushner at No. 3 with “Daylight”.

]]>Loreen came into the competition as a front-runner and the jury gave her 340 points in the first stage of the voting. She was far ahead of Israel and Italy in the second and third spots, but Eurovision viewers were hoping that the public vote would change it all.
Finland’s Käärijä led the televote with his viral hit “Cha Cha Ca” and received impressive 376 points from the public. This wasn’t enough to get him over the finish line, and Loreen eventually lifted the trophy with a total of 583 points from the jury and the public combined.
The Swedish singer made history as the first woman to win Eurovision twice, having previously won with “Euphoria” in 2012. She admitted that the experience was much different the second time around because she evolved as a person and a musician.
“Now, 11 years later, life has thrown me up and down, left and right. A lot of things have happened during these 11 years. So, coming back, there is this effortless energy. It’s such a soft, motherly energy… I’m much more present now than I was then, and I love it,” she told NME.
The 67th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and Finland, Israel, Italy, and Norway ended up rounding out the top five.

]]>Rosa Linn’s “Snap” didn’t make much of an impression at the Eurovision, finishing in the disappointing 20th place, but that didn’t stop it from going viral on TikTok. It became the first Eurovision song in 21 years to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart and led to Linn touring with Ed Sheeran and signing a deal with Columbia Records.
Måneskin is one of the rare Eurovision acts to find international fame. They performed on SNL, scored a Grammy nod for the best new artist, and made quite a splash with their viral “Beggiin’” cover, but most of their fans discovered them long before that. “Zitti e buoni” started it all after it brought them a win at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest.
Daði Freyr was one of the favorites coming into the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest and everyone was raving about his viral hit “Think About Things”. It all went downhill after the contest was canceled in the face of the COVID pandemic, and the replacement song “10 Years” failed to replicate its success, finishing in the fourth spot.
