]]>This year’s Essence Fest will return to New Orleans, Louisiana between June 29 and July 3, and it will be worth waiting for. Megan Thee Stallion will be headlining alongside Ms. Lauryn Hill, who’ll celebrate the 25th anniversary of her game-changing album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill at this year’s festival.
Vice President of Essence Festival, Hakeem Holmes, also pointed out that the upcoming edition will be held in honor of HipHop50, the ’50th anniversary of hip-hop.
“We couldn’t think of a better way to honor the contributions that genre has made on global culture and the impressions that these artists and their deep musical catalogs, which we all know so well, have been ingrained into the fibers of our day-to-day lives,” said Holmes in a statement.
The list of performers at the Festival of Culture stage will also include Wizkid, Monica, Coco Jones, and Kizz Daniel. Jermaine Dupri & Friends and Doug E. Fresh are expected to curate the HipHop5 celebration.

]]>Essence Fest launched back in 1995 and went on to transform into the largest event celebrating African-American culture and music in the United States.
It’s been described as “the party with a purpose”
“When the Essence Festival was founded 25 years ago, it marked a pivotal moment of vision and reverence – a critical acknowledgement of and investment in the power of our culture. In the years since, it has set a standard that many other festivals have aspired to,” said Michelle Ebanks, CEO of Essence Communications.
This year’s Essence Fest will feature nearly 30 artists per night over 3 epic nights, taking place on July 4-7 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

]]>The 2018 edition of Essence Festival will also feature Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Snoop Dogg accompanied by other guests in a special curation by The Roots. Miguel, Fantasia, Xscape, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Kelela, Ro James, DVSN, 112, Mali Music, Kevin Ross, Marsha Ambrosius and Teddy Riley’s New Jack Swing Experience are also scheduled to perform on Mainstage and the four Superlounges. Essence Festival will also present DJ sets for the first time in history, with actor turned DJ Idris Elba, MC Lyte, and others. American comedian Roy Wood Jr. will serve as a Mainstage host.

“In 2018 women are at the forefront of a seismic shift reverberating across the cultural landscape,” said Essence Communications president Michelle Ebanks in a press release announcing the lineup. “This movement comes to life for our community at the Essence Festival.”
This already massive line-up will be joined by more acts which will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
