]]>“I was definitely going through some sh*t on Lady Wood and Blue Lips,” Lo told Billboard, referencing her second and third albums, respectively. “I was working through it for everyone to watch, but that’s just how I deal with everything. This album is written from a calmer place so, naturally, it’s me looking out instead of looking in.”
She then went on to explain the reason behind the bleakness of her music in that period: “It was a very dramatic relationship that ended very horribly, so that broke me a lot.”
“This feels like a clean slate,” she said about her new album. “It’s also a way of being able to observe myself and a relationship without feeling so much anger. Kind of admitting to your own flawed sides without being frustrated with them.”
Listen to Lo’s single “Glad He’s Gone” off of the new album below. Let’s be honest — it’s still a bit dark. But as Einstein is sure to agree, light is a relative concept.

]]>“The first album I did was a heartbreak album because I was really in love with this guy, and he broke up with me and it was super sad,” explained the 28-year-old, real name Anna Lotterud, to Billboard. “This time around, I did the opposite of writing really sad songs about it. This is the moving-on album. I tried to make it like, ‘Okay, we’re not going to be together, but I’m not going to lay down and die. I’m going to be fine.’”
She went on to say that “It’s an ironic kind of heartbreak album, instead of the other one that was more devastating. This album is about trying to get over it and move on. I’m going to keep on moving forward.”
Anna might be open on stage about her past experiences, but in real life, she can be quite shy, even in the studio. “It’s quite hard to open up in a session, and I’m quite shy and insecure in many ways about my music,” she confessed. “You want to make a good impression, and it’s not always easy. Music doesn’t always come when it’s supposed to come.”
In a more joking tone she added: “If one day you aren’t inspired, it’s hard to force it, and if you’re in the studio with someone you really respect, then you’re like, “Sh*t, they don’t think it’s good!”
