]]>Some of the week’s best new songs hail from newly released albums, starting with Hozier’s Unreal Unearth. Several of the songs from this LP were previously released as singles or featured on his EP Eat You Young, but the album itself gave us several amazing new songs, including “Damage Gets Done” ft. Brandi Carlile.
This week also marked the release of Reneé Rapp’s debut studio album Snow Angel, accompanied by the music video for “Pretty Girls”. Jon Batiste’s new album also made it to our list, and “Uneasy” ft. Lil Wayne is one of its most notable standouts.
When it comes to the viral hits for this week, Usher’s “Boyfriend” certainly created the most buzz online—mostly thanks to its Las Vegas-set music video starring Keke Palmer.
The rest of our list for this week features an interesting mix of different genres, including new music by Anitta, Charlie Puth, Thirty Seconds To Mars, The National, Jessie Reyez, and many more.

]]>Frontman Ben Gibbard spoke to NMEand revealed the somber meaning behind the song, which appeared on the band’s third studio album Plans.
“I think what it is about ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’ that connects to people is the fact that we are all going to lose everyone in our lives,” he said. “Everyone in our lives is going to die. We too will die someday, and people will mourn us.”
He went onto explain why it is important that we keep this fact in our minds: “In the same breath that one gains wisdom and experience with age, there is a period of your life in which it feels like you’re going to weddings every weekend and there’s a period in your life when it feels like you’re going to funerals every weekend.
“I think it’s very important in our relative age group that we recognize that we’re living in a very special time in our lives where we’re going to far more weddings than funerals.”
He then continued: “Death is an ever-present fear. If not a fear, then an impending reality in our lives. We like to think that when people leave this life, we will see them again some day. Writing a love song that deals specifically with the inevitable death of one’s partner and that you will follow that person into whatever the afterlife is or is not, that’s something that people can relate to.”
Death Cab For Cutie’s upcoming album Thank You For Today will be released August 19th.

]]>The alternative rockers have revealed that their ninth studio album will be released in August 2018 and shared a teaser trailer that features a snippet of new music.
Alongside the announcement of yet-untitled record, the band revealed dates for their upcoming tour.
You can check out the teaser below.
Death Cab For Cutie hinted at a new record back in November 2017, when they posted a photo from the studio with caption: “LP9 // 2018.”
This upcoming album will be the first for the band since founding member and guitarist Chris Walla left the band in 2014 in order to focus on his solo career and producing. Still, Walla was involved in Kintsugi, and according to drummer Jason McGerr, he “played on everything and has been involved all the way through, even in the mixing.”
In 2016, Death Cab For Cutie promoted touring musicians Dave Depper and Zac Rae to full-time members of the band in order to compensate for Chris Walla’s exit.
Following the release of their new album, Death Cab For Cutie will embark on a tour in fall. After two shows in Europe, the band will tour the U.S. and will also play at Sao Paolo’s Popload Festival.
