Shinoda released a solo Post Traumatic EP in January and is soon to release a solo album of the same name, where he opens up about his feelings following the death of Bennington.
While it is uncertain at this stage whether Linkin Park will continue to make music, Shinoda is hoping his new material can be of benefit to fans of the band.
When speaking about his experienced since the death of Bennington, he said: “The experience of this last year has been crazy, and I wanted to put it into music, not only to just put, like, a stamp on it and say this happened, but also to allow the fans and the people who have been along for the ride, to guide them on that journey.”

]]>Shinoda revealed the recovery will take time after losing someone who was close to you but added that seeing Grohl and how he created something from nothing helped inspire him.
“If I’m on the other side of that, and I see somebody doing well, for example Dave Grohl after Nirvana, seeing him do the thing and get back up and create Foo Fighters out of nothing, that’s a moment where you go, ‘It can be done.’ It feels heroic in a way,” he says.
Shinoda is set to release a full-length solo album called Post-Traumatic on June 15th.
He spoke about returning to songwriting after Bennington’s death.
“I think about eight days after Chester passed, I knew that if I didn’t get into the studio and start writing something soon, that my fear of doing it would just build and build and build,” Shinoda explains. “In the beginning, I was just writing anything just to be able to write… Just to do it and know I didn’t have to be scared to get into the room, and those eventually turned into serious songs.”

]]>Since then, Linkin Park have only played one show which was a tribute show to Bennington in October. Shinoda did, however, reveal this January that the band has “every intention” to continue.
“A week after Chester passed, the idea of the studio was scary,” Shinoda says. “And it wasn’t just the idea of attempting to make a song and being overwhelmed by those memories. There’s another layer of fear for artists in this situation that is, ‘What if I can’t make anything good [without that person]?’ Those hurdles start to accumulate, whether that’s fear or depression or the chaos of the outside world, it creates an echo chamber of anxiety.”
Shinoda revealed that he was making bad music during that period.
“I was making bad ’90s grunge songs, making bad rap songs… and then I made something good,” he says. “I’d make all these different things with no intention of putting them out, but just diving into some of the ideas that were already in my head.”
