The concert, which is set for June 21^st at London’s Royal Albert Hall, will see guitarist Steve Diggle, bassist Chris Remington, and drummer Danny Farrant playing Buzzcocks’ classics with a number of special guests who will fill in for Shelley. After Pete Shelley’s untimely death last week, fans are hoping to pay tribute to the late musician by getting the band’s iconic single to number one for the first time. Now, the Buzzcocks have backed the campaign.

The Change.org petition reads: “40 years on from the incredible track being released, the band deserves its first number one, plus it would be a brilliant tribute to Pete Shelley. The charts run from Friday to Friday, so get downloading the iconic song below and help us salute Pete!”

Buzzcocks have since stumbled across the campaign and have decided to endorse it as a tribute to their late bandmate. They shared on Facebook: “While we are not the ones who started this campaign, have at it if you like.”

The campaign has already been backed by over 2,000 people and the number is growing. Fans are hoping that with enough of a push, the campaign will be successful in getting the iconic punk song to number one on Friday 14.

Buzzcocks released nine albums with Pete Shelley and went on to be regarded as one of the most influential bands in British music despite their lack of commercial success. They also developed devoted fanbases and a cult following in the U.K. and the United States.

Besides his work with Buzzcocks, Shelley was also productive as a solo artist, releasing a total of six studio albums.
