]]>Making an appearance on the most recent episode of the Rockonteurs podcast, U2 bassist Adam Clayton told hosts Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt that he and the rest of the band—guitarist Edge and drummer Larry Mullen Jr.—would “encourage” Bono’s solo career.
“If Bono wanted to go off and do a solo record, I would encourage him, and certainly everyone else would,” said Clayton.
Clayton also added that he believes “the band is elastic enough” to accept if someone wanted to do their own thing and then “come back.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Clayton also hinted at new U2 projects. He revealed that the band is currently prepping “some acoustic versions” of their past songs while also having a track ready for Universal’s animated musical comedy Sing 2.

Bono’s most recent ventures outside the U2 were “We Are the People,” the official song of the UEFA Euro 2020, on which he teamed up with Edge and Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, and the single “Let Your Love Be Known.”

]]>According to Bono, the reason why they opted for “Stairway to Heaven” is that the road crew always plays the song when they are setting up their equipment.
“Wherever you go in the world, whatever venue you’re playing—whether it’s the Olympia or 3 Arena or Madison Square Garden—you walk into the venue, and it’s a big moment, and you’ll hear a song that we said, ‘We’ll never, ever play this.’ And that’s right, ‘Stairway to Heaven,’” Bono explained.

Despite not being able to play live shows and go on tours due to the COVID-19 pandemic, U2 has kept themselves pretty busy in recent months. The bandmembers staged several virtual performances, while also reportedly working on new music.
The legendary rockers are also in the midst of launching their own SiriusXM channel U2 X-Radio. The channel will feature U2’s music but also an array of other content including interviews, special guest appearances, and shows hosted by Edge and Bono.
