Some of our favorite albums of the 2010s just happened to be the soundtracks of movies we’ve all watched countless times and we’re bringing you a few that made the biggest impact this decade.

Frozen

Disney gave us several pretty amazing soundtracks this year, but none of them managed to reach the popularity of Frozen and its signature song “Let It Go”.

Bohemian Rhapsody

The Freddie Mercury biopic starring Rami Malek was pretty polarizing, but it renewed public interest in Queen’s work and we must thank it for that.

La La Land

If we had to name one original musical that defined the 2010s, it would certainly be La La Land, and it simply wouldn’t work without its amazing soundtrack.

The Greatest Showman

Even those who didn’t like The Greatest Showman have to agree that the music was perfect, and it gave us several great songs that were later re-imagined by some of our favorite artists.

A Star Is Born

A Star Is Born was remade several times and always featured an epic soundtrack, but none of them compares to the one we’ve got thanks to Lady Gaga.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Unlike the majority of the soundtracks on the lists, this one doesn’t feature any new original songs, but Awesome Mix Vol. 1 was the very heart and soul of this Marvel smash hit.

Neil Gaiman’s highly-anticipated adaptation of cult novel Good Omens is finally here, and the epic battle between good and evil isn’t the only thing that will capture your attention. The soundtrack of the show is equally captivating since it features some of Queen’s greatest hits.

Those familiar with the book the mini-series was based on were not surprised by the countless Queen references. One of Agnes Nutter’s prophecies mentioned in the novel clearly states that “all tapes left in a car for more than about a fortnight metamorphose into Best of Queen albums” and that’s exactly what happens in Good Omens.

Every time we see Crowley driving his old Bentley, we can hear one of Queen’s songs blasting in the background. Even the songs that weren’t originally recorded by this legendary band are reminiscent of their signature sound.

Queen references were one of the most notable running jokes in the original novel, and director Douglas Mackinnon really went an extra mile to get the rights for band’s greatest hits – especially “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

“I think Queen was going, ‘Well, maybe the film is not going to be so good, so you can have the rights.’ Happily for everyone, the film turns out to be a great film and one of the biggest splashes of the year. But we still had the rights,” explained Mackinnon while chatting with The Wrap.

Last week, Rami Malek was awarded a BAFTA for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. To prepare himself for the role, Malek did more research than your average Queen superfan and he has become something of an ambassador for Mercury’s legacy for a new generation.

The night before he won his BAFTA, Malek has revealed that he met up with Bob Geldof. During the meeting, Geldof shared the story of how he managed to persuade Freddie Mercury to play the legendary Live Aid gig.

“I don’t know if Bob Geldof will kill me for this but I saw him and met him last night and what he said to me is he called Freddie and he told them, ‘Freddie, I think that there’s an event that was made especially for Queen and especially for you’”, Malek recalled.

“And he goes, ‘This audience is made for Freddie,’ and Freddie said, ‘What do you mean, darling?’ and he said, ‘Well, it’s the world’ and Freddie goes, ‘I see what you mean.”

During his acceptance speech last night, Malek said: “To the greatest outsider of them all. For being so unwavering and unflinching and uncompromising in every which way. Thank you Freddie Mercury again.”

Queen is undoubtedly one of the greatest rock bands in the history of music. Thanks to their stadium anthems and the incredible talent of frontman Freddie Mercury, the group is now loved by all generations.

Recently the band’s music gained even more exposure thanks to biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which was released in October. While this was a great movie, many interesting facts about these legendary British rockers were skipped in it, so we decided to do you a solid and bring you 8 things you probably didn’t know about Queen.

1. Before joining forces with Freddie Mercury and forming Queen, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor played together in a band named Smile.

2. The Queen’s crest was designed by Mercury, who used the astrological signs of the band’s members as inspiration.

3. If you are not a diehard Queen fan, you probably didn’t know that they have a Christmas track. Titled “Thank God It’s Christmas,” the song was released in 1984 and achieved moderate success. It was never released on any of the band’s studio albums.

4. The band holds several Guinness World Records including the one for UK’s best single of the past 50 years for “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

5. Speaking of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Queen recorded the music video for the song in just four hours. Another interesting thing about the song is that Freddie Mercury didn’t like to play it live since he was unsure about his abilities to play the piano.

6. Queen didn’t think that “Another One Bites The Dust” has a potential to become a hit. They decided to release it as a single only after Michael Jackson recommended that.

7. Their collaboration with David Bowie, song “Under Pressure,” was born accidentally. Bowie happened to be in the same studio were Queen recorded, and they decided to do a song together.

8. Freddie Mercury was a big cat lover and had up to ten of them at various points in his life. He was so attached to his pets that he called home to talk to them while he was on tour.

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the most iconic songs in the history of music, so we rarely see someone taking a task of covering it. YouTube musician Anthony Vincent, however, didn’t shy away from this big challenge. As a matter of fact, he did not only cover “Bohemian Rhapsody” in its original style, but he also did it in an additional 41 different music styles.

His decision to do Queen’s big hit was inspired by the film Bohemian Rhapsody, but the 31-year-old also did it because lots of his fans asked for it.

“I disappeared from the internet for a month to finally take on my number one requested song,”- said Vincent. “Being away from social media was very good for me, and I highly recommend this to anybody. Maybe everyone should start producing songs in multiple styles just so they too could take a vacation from social media.”

If you are curious to hear Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” being performed in style of David Bowie, Nirvana, Frank Sinatra, Ozzy Osbourne, and Kendrick Lamar, check out the video below.

Anthony Vincent frequently does covers of contemporary hits and classics on his popular YouTube channel 10 Second Songs, which currently has close to three million subscribers and 166.5 million views.
