Queen legend Brian May says that the band hasn’t “earned a penny” from the recent Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

The feature starred Rami Malek as the late Freddie Mercury. Malek received an Academy Award for his stellar performance along with a Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA. His epic performance along with the popularity of Queen resulted in $900 million of earnings at the box office.

Although Queen’s original music was used in the feature, however, it seems that they are yet to benefit from the sales of the movie.

May told BBC Radio 2 on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show: “We thought it would do well in the end and we felt good about it, but we didn’t realize it would do that well. It’s incredible around the world – it’s like a billion-dollar movie.”

In spite of the movie’s global success, May has admitted that they are yet to earn any profits from sales.

“I had to laugh the other day because there’s a thing in the paper saying that we were getting rich off this movie,” he said. “If they only knew. We had an accountant in the other day and we still haven’t earned a penny from it.

“Isn’t that funny? How successful does a movie have to be before you make money? There’s so many people that people don’t realize will take pieces off the top.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is available for purchase on DVD via Amazon now.

After a few days of backlash for allegedly not wanting to air performances by all five best song nominees, the Oscars responded by announcing that all of the five artists will perform and be televised at the event.

Jennifer Hudson will perform “I’ll fight” as featured in the RBG documentary. The Oscars then gave a spoiler, saying a surprise guest will perform “The Place Where Lost Things Go” as featured in Mary Poppins Returns. In the film, the song was performed by Emily Blunt.

Before the backlash, the Oscars planned to features only songs from A Star is Born and Black Panther, meaning performances by Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar. As recent as last week, there were reports that all five nominees for the best song category had met. They planned to advocate for everyone to perform or no one at all.

While the Oscars did not respond to those reports, they accepted there was a plan to have the living members of Queen to perform one of the hit songs featured in Bohemian Rhapsody. The plan ultimately failed. Still, it’s expected that there will be more music performances besides the nominated artists.

Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the most talked about films in December. For everyone that loved it, 20TH Century Fox has some good news this New Year.

The upcoming Blu-Ray release of the biopic will feature an extended version of the Live Aid Performance, giving fans a chance to re-watch star Rami Malek relive the rock star for an even longer amount of time.

In case you haven’t watched it, Bohemian Rhapsody is the title of English rock band Queen’s biopic. It stars Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury and mainly revolves around the rise of the famous rock group. The Live Aid performance was the last show Queen held. It was aimed at raising funds for an Ethiopian famine and was held in July 1985.

The event was star studded, featuring artists like David Bowie, Elton John, Paul McCarthy, Mick Jagger, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and The Who. The event was placed in the biopic as the last performance in part due to its historic significance in the rock scene.

Early this week, 20th Century Fox released news that the Blu-Ray release of the film will include the full Live Aid performance. It will be 22-minute long and will feature additional songs like “We Will Rock You” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”

Considering Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the best grossing films of the last month, its Blu-Ray release will probably have the same impact.

Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the most iconic songs in the history of music, so we rarely see someone taking a task of covering it. YouTube musician Anthony Vincent, however, didn’t shy away from this big challenge. As a matter of fact, he did not only cover “Bohemian Rhapsody” in its original style, but he also did it in an additional 41 different music styles.

His decision to do Queen’s big hit was inspired by the film Bohemian Rhapsody, but the 31-year-old also did it because lots of his fans asked for it.

“I disappeared from the internet for a month to finally take on my number one requested song,”- said Vincent. “Being away from social media was very good for me, and I highly recommend this to anybody. Maybe everyone should start producing songs in multiple styles just so they too could take a vacation from social media.”

If you are curious to hear Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” being performed in style of David Bowie, Nirvana, Frank Sinatra, Ozzy Osbourne, and Kendrick Lamar, check out the video below.

Anthony Vincent frequently does covers of contemporary hits and classics on his popular YouTube channel 10 Second Songs, which currently has close to three million subscribers and 166.5 million views.
