“Thank you to Bernie, who has been the constant thing in my life. When I was screwed up, when I was normal, you’ve always been there for me,” said the British superstar in his Oscar speech, while also thanking his husband David Furnish.
This is Elton John’s first Oscar win in 25 years — he won an award in the same category for the timeless The Lion King tune “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” alongside Tim Rice.

]]>When they took the stage to accept the award, John said this win is extremely important to them because it’s the first they’ve ever received together, and Taupin echoed his statement.
“This is really sweet because this is not just about a song we wrote for a movie. It’s about a song we wrote for a movie that deals with our relationship. And it’s a relationship that doesn’t happen very often in this town: It’s a 52-year-old marriage,” said Elton John’s long-time songwriting partner.
What makes their victory even more impressive is that they had to beat pretty tough competition to score this win. The list of nominees also included Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber who co-wrote Cats tune “Beautiful Ghosts”, and The Lion King track “Spirit” written by Beyoncé, Ilya, and Labrinth.
