Drummer Colin Burgess, one of the founding members of legendary rock band AC/DC, died at the age of 77. AC/DC confirmed the news over the weekend, with the cause of death being unknown.

“Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin,” the band wrote in caption of Burgess’ photo posted on their social media.

Burgess started his career with Australian rock band The Masters Apprentices, with whom he recorded four studio albums between 1967 and 1972. After the group disbanded following their fourth studio album, A Toast To Panama Red, Burgess was recruited by Malcolm Young and Angus Young to be part of their new band AC/DC in 1973.

Burgess’ stint with AC/DC was short-lived. He recorded several songs with the band, including “Can I Sit Next to You, Girl”, “Rockin’ in the Parlour”, and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer”, before being fired in early 1974. Burgess later returned to the band to play drums on several live shows while Phil Rudd was recovering from a hand injury.

Burgess later played in several other bands, including His Majesty and Dead Singers Band. He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame for his work in The Masters Apprentices.

Australian rockers AC/DC continue to share exclusive content with their fans, celebrating the 40th anniversary of their seventh studio album Back in Black. This time it was a previously unseen live performance of the song “You Shook Me All Night Long.”

The footage was captured during the original Back in Black tour at the band’s show in Tokyo’s Nippon Seinenkan in February 1981.

This was the second video that AC/DC shared from the same concert, after previously unveiling a clip for “What Do You Do for Money Honey.”

Back in Black was released in on July 25th, 1980, and was the band’s first album with new singer Brian Johnson. Many believed that the record will be a failure without late vocalist Bon Scott, but it turned out to be the bands’ biggest release with hits like “You Shook Me All Night Long,” “Back in Black,” and “Hells Bells.”

The album went on to sell more than 50 million copies and received widespread acclaim from critics. It is frequently mentioned as one of the best records in music history.

Rock and roll legends AC/DC might treat us with some new music soon. Rumors that the Australian rockers are working on new songs started circling in late 2018 and this could well be true according to the band’s longtime engineer Mike Fraser.

Fraser recently had a chat with Tony “Jack the Bear” Mantz on his podcast Mastering Music Mastering Life and confirmed that AC/DC was recently in the studio “doing something.”

“Well, yeah, I could say that we’ve been in the studio doing something,” said Fraser. “What’s come of that I can’t discuss yet.”

When asked if Brian Johnson, who left the band in 2016 due to hearing problems, is signing the vocals again, Fraser responded: “I think so.”

Mike Fraser started working with AC/DC in 1990 when he mixed and engineered their twelfth studio album The Razors Edge. Fraser went on to collaborate with the band on four more studio albums while also working with them on several other releases.

You can check out Fraser’ full Mastering Music Mastering Life interview in the video below. He starts talking about AC/DC around 37:30 mark.

AC/DC’s last studio album came in 2014 when they released Rock or Bust. The album received favorable reviews from the critics while reaching No. 3 on US Billboard 200 and UK Charts. There were numerous speculations in the past several years that the band might release a follow-up, but the members of the group remained tight-lipped about such plans.
