Take On Me was one of A-Ha’s greatest hits. It was released in 1985 and reached No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100.

The song’s video, directed by Steve Barron, is one of the most famous and beloved videos of all times, getting nearly 1 billion views on YouTube over the years.

Now the Norwegian band is breathing new life to the video – releasing a version of it remastered to 4K.

The video, which contains animated pencil art alongside live action, was already considered unique and ground-braking when it was first released. Apart from its extraordinary visuals, the editing process was different to most videos at the time, as it was not edited in tape format but restored from the original 35 mm reels.

If the song reaches the 1 billion views mark on YouTube, it will be one of the first European songs to do so, joining a select group of pre-2000 songs to achieve this. Other songs in this group are Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Alongside the new version of the video, the band has also released a short clip comparing the new 4K version with the original.
