]]>Lorde teased the release of Virgin by sharing its cryptic album cover and a tracklist that includes a total of 11 songs. She’s yet to reveal the track titles, but they were produced by her and Jim-E Stack, along with Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Aged, Buddy Ross, Dan Nigro, and Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes.
Lorde sent out a letter to fans where she explained what her new album is all about, adding its “language is plain and unsentimental.”
“I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masc. I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free,” she wrote.
Lorde officially announced the release of Virgin shortly after dropping its lead single “What Was That” back on Friday. Its synth-pop vibe drew comparisons to her 2017 album Melodrama and marked a departure from the indie folk sound she embraced on her latest album Solar Power.
